Do You Feel That The Challenges Of Life Are Too Much To Bear Sometimes?

Are you dealing with issues of sex, intimacy, and relationships? Have you been struggling with lost friendships and strained family connections? Do you feel overwhelmed trying to juggle your career, relationships, and all your other commitments?

Maybe your life isn’t all that bad, but it feels like there’s something missing. As an LGBTQ+ person, you may face unique challenges in navigating relationships. Maybe you have trouble trusting other people because of past hurt. Perhaps you struggle to open up to others about your sexuality. As a result, you may feel like you don’t have the social support you need.

You May Turn To Unhealthy Habits To Cope With Your Challenges

Perhaps you’re struggling with drug or alcohol use and you’re looking for a better way to live. You may be in recovery from substance abuse and learning to live sober. Maybe you find it tough to navigate life in the wake of your addiction.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You have the power to change. You can work with me if you want to address your concerns with someone who supports you unconditionally through a lens of compassion. I believe that my approach to LGBTQ+ therapy can help you find the inner strength and insight to heal emotional wounds and move closer to the life you desire.

It’s no secret that LGBTQ+ people live with discrimination on a regular basis. They often face disparities in the workplace, the healthcare world, and even the home. As a result, many live in fear of being completely themselves in all areas of life, which increases their risk of mental health issues. Overall, LGBTQ+ people are 1.5-to-2.5 times more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety than other people. They also face a higher risk of dealing with substance use, contracting HIV/AIDS, and experiencing unhealthy weight-control behaviors.

If you wish you knew a trusted, helpful professional who understands the complexities of life as an LGBTQ+ person, I encourage you to connect with me. In addition to my private practice work, I’m a behavioral health therapist at a local community services agency, where I passionately support people living with HIV/AIDS who suffer from substance abuse and other mental health concerns. With my affirming and unconditional support, you have the opportunity to improve your self-confidence, elevate your self-esteem, and build a legacy of transformation.

LGBTQ+ Therapy Is An Opportunity To Experience Safety, Warmth, And Acceptance

Let’s be honest: you’ve probably faced many hurdles in life. You are a survivor and you know yourself better than anyone else. The therapeutic alliance creates a safe, private space where you can shine and be your authentic and amazing self. I strive to create an atmosphere of warmth and unconditional support—this is a time when you can be totally and unreservedly yourself without fear of judgment.

Most importantly, although I am a therapist and I am here as a guide and a resource, we are collaborators. I believe that you and I are partners working together to facilitate lasting change. After all, you are the expert on your own life. My role is simply helping you expand your awareness and uncover the innate gifts and talents that you hold within you.

What To Expect In Sessions

LGBTQ+ therapy looks different for every client. What works for someone else may not work for you. That said, oftentimes the focus of therapy involves getting to the core of your struggles. I want to help you identify and resolve any unfinished business and recognize any deeper emotional wounds in your life. As we build trust and rapport together and move at a pace that is comfortable for you, we will gently uncover the experiences that are causing distress in your life today.

Tailoring Your Treatment Plan

I take an integrative approach to the healing process, incorporating ideas from mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and many other treatment methods. CBT can help you deal with depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, overcoming drug and alcohol use, and many other mental health issues. In a nutshell, this approach seeks to help you learn better ways of coping with emotional pain and becoming more effective in your life.

Mindfulness utilizes non-judgmental moment-to-moment awareness techniques. This approach uses strategies like breath awareness, body scans, and grounding exercises to improve emotion regulation and enhance your overall well-being.

No matter how things might look right now, you are not alone and what you are feeling is not uncommon. You have gotten this far in life and you have demonstrated great strength and resilience. You know what works for you and we will build on your strengths to help you overcome your hurdles and achieve your goals.

You May Have Some Concerns About LGBTQ+ Counseling…

  • No one else knows what it’s like to be in your shoes. However, I believe you and I will find enough common ground to relate to each other. My personal and professional experience has helped me understand people with various life experiences. What’s more, difference can be a good thing. Sometimes people with different life experiences can help you see things from a new perspective and consider new ways to look at your situation.

  • No matter how intelligent or resilient you are, there are limitations to what you can accomplish alone. By yourself, you are limited to your own perspective. Just as you would seek out a doctor to help you repair a physical injury, it’s vital to have a counselor help you work through your mental health challenges. That said, I would love to know what has gone well for you in the past so that we can help you build off of your strengths with the hopes of creating a better life for yourself.

  • In LGBTQ+ therapy, you get to set the agenda and decide what to talk about. There is no pressure to open up about your private life right away. The good news is that you are in a safe, confidential space here. You can say whatever you want without fear of judgment.
